I was so excited my theater got The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, from the moment I saw this trailer, I knew I was in for a treat. This movie only looked incredible, even though it's a touchy subject field with the holocaust, it still looked similar information technology was going to be a great story. Honey his country and practice his duty or don't judge and just stay true to his friend? Bruno must decide all this with some scary consequences ahead of him.
The Male child in the Striped Pyjamas is a fantastic motion picture, though if you run across it, I practice recommend bringing the tissues. I couldn't believe the chemistry they had with these two young actors, they worked so well together as these innocent boys who both have no idea what's going on. Bruno doesn't know why his friend is behind fences, and his friend doesn't know why he's there either. The catastrophe is extremely powerful and the story keeps yous interested. Bruno And Shmuel
I can't speak for other people, simply for me The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas is a film that can be seen once and once merely because the impact is so shattering. Non even a stone statue can exist not moved by this film, this child's eye view of the Holocaust.

This was truly one of the near disturbing movies I've ever seen. I can't imagine the friendship story having any semblance of historical fact to it, merely it makes i think almost the randomness of existence and how tenuous it can be to be on the 'wrong' side. The grapheme of Bruno (Asa Butterfield) is the image of childlike innocence, and his view of the world is ane of total acceptance to a young mind incapable of inhumanity and horror. The motion-picture show skillfully contrasts his character with that of sister Gretel (Amber Beattie), somewhat older and already under the influence of Hitler Youth propaganda. The conflicted portrayal of the female parent Elsa (Vera Farmiqa) is also set against the subdued brutality of the Commandant father (David Thewliss).
With a title similar "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas", I really didn't know what to expect, and even well into the picture I didn't have any idea how the story would be brought to a conclusion. When it finally became apparent how this was going to end, it was all I could exercise to steel myself for the unthinkable and the unconscionable.
It's a constant source of confusion to my heed how this world tin can contain such disparate elements leading to heroic examples of humanity contrasted against unspeakable acts of horror and depravity. A very good film
When my son (nearly 12 years erstwhile) read the book he was awake until 5am that dark thinking nearly the story and what it all meant; he had some penetrating questions besides. A twenty-four hours or so later he said that he thought that it would make a practiced film, and imagine his please when he saw that in that location was a flick of the book.
I accept taken him to see the movie; and was riveted. There have been some comments that the bandage speak English (rather than, presumably, High german) and that this is somehow a bad thing. What are the alternatives? Either sub-titles or daft 'ello 'ello accents. In some ways the ordinariness of the Nazis and the family points up the horror of what happened that ordinary people can do the worst of things to fellow human beings.

I read the volume "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" later on coming across it in the library almost a year ago, and it amazed me. The unique approach taken by Mr Boyne put the subject matter across in a fresh and, if information technology is possible, even more center-wrenching fashion. When I heard they were making the volume into a motion-picture show, I was very anxious, as I thought that they couldn't possibly convey the book onto the screen appropriately.
I am delighted to say that I was entirely wrong. I have just this minute returned home from seeing the film and I am absolutely stunned. The pic is practically identical to the book, which was wonderful to see, and I thought that the acting was superb. Vera Farmiga and Asa Butterfield were, I thought, exceptional. The flick was handled fantastically and I believe that the feel of the novel was non lost in the translation to screen.
Seeing the flick was a lot more intense than reading the volume and, fifty-fifty knowing what was coming, I plant myself sobbing at the terminate, as were my father and stride-female parent, the latter of whom had never read the book, and was utterly shocked. This is the showtime film I take ever seen in which the whole audition were silent from beginning to end, and and then, when the film ended, not a single person moved for a long time afterwards.

The Holocaust Presented as a Grim Children'southward Fable

Perfectly weighted pic...
I'm a homo's man, and it takes something really exceptional to interruption my emotionless machine persona. This moving picture ripped me apart and reminded me (and my partner) of humanity inside even the most hardened man.
Perfectly weighted picture in every style, from pace to acting and all framed with a wonderful score. The subtlety of the looks passing between the actors and a finale that ensured silence until the final credit rolled, makes this one of the all-time films i've seen in a long time.

The power of a child's innocence

Being Jewish and having family that died in the holocaust, these types of movies always touch a nerve with me.
I thought it was a fantastic thought having a movie based effectually the war through a naive child'south eyes. What this picture show showed to me was how when you remove the political, racial and cultural issues from people at that place is potential for us all to become along.
The principal graphic symbol played the office of 'innocence' beautifully and his non judgemental eyes merely made my heart flutter at the thought that during such barbaric times compassion withal lived within humans.
The film maintained fascination throughout, seeing how the effects of what were going on around him effected the balance of his family unit, which led to the finale. For me it showed the ultimate idea of 'shoe on the other foot'... how in life we can feel OK about handing it out but when taking it back we realise what kind of twisted evil beings ane can exist.
I highly recommend this movie for whatsoever adult, though this film is based around Nazi Germany and the Jews, the ideas behind it can apply to any subversive situation that is going on in the globe today.
Overall this is a 10/10, powerful stuff.

Amazing
Although it starts of slow,you shortly get wrapped up in the story and feel as if you are in that location. It'south amazing to come across the different points of view and the acting is so conceivable you lot feel as if it is all happening there and and so. I accept cried at films in the cinema before but this is the only moving-picture show that has made me want to sob. When it finished and the credits started rolling, no one moved from their seats or said anything. We were all shocked, and when people did outset to go upwards an exit the picture palace, still no one said anything. One of the nearly affecting pieces of Cinema released in years

Utterly Devastating
My fiancƩ and I purchased tickets for a special advanced screening of this flick during the Carnegie Film Festival in Dunfermline, Fife. I didn't realise, but we were i of the first people to meet it. I volition try and not spoil it and continue the review very unproblematic and straight forward.
The film is mainly shot through the eyes of Bruno played by Asa Butterfield growing upwards in state of war time Deutschland during the holocaust. Subsequently relocating at the will of the German Army, the motion picture then centres on the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel (Jack Scanlon). I will end information technology there equally I don't wish to spoil the residuum of the film.

A motion picture that everyone must watch
I was sitting at the very back row of Cineworld, Dublin screen nine and struggling with my tears. I thought information technology would be extremely embarrassing if people see tears in my optics. The Boy in Striped Pajamas, aside from it looking more often than not like a slightly upgraded Television set movie (it's financed by BBC) and featuring British and non-British actors not changing any of their accents for their characters, is likewise likewise obvious for its own expert. Holocaust = bad is the bones message of the picture, and a message that evidently never sinks into the head of Bruno, the 8 twelvemonth erstwhile boy who befriends Shmool, the boy of the title who befriends him across the fence of the concentration campsite. Maybe I only wasn't as emotionally invested in the ending every bit some other critics have been, but it starts as being pretty stupid - for Bruno to merely casually dig his way into the campsite and so slip on the military camp wearing apparel without anyone noticing is one thing - so, the final straw, with the big lesson being delivered as a manipulative sucker dial to the parents as Bruno and Shmool are shuffled off to the gas bedchamber at but the verbal moment they go into the i bunker. This is just a cruel twist, something done to drive tragedy into a story that doesn't provide much except for a feeling of "... what?" If information technology touches other people who don't see any of the obvious lines drawn in Herman's script or direction, proficient for them. For me, it'south a total emotional sham.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is an incredibly devastating motion picture which will leave you equally an emotional wreck past the end... trust me. I originally watched this movie in Secondary School when i was no older than 13 (my English teacher must savour watching kids cry). The story is told from the perspective of 8 year old Bruno, which provides the audience with a different perspective to the war that isn't seen too often. From an innocent mind. This merely helps to make the movie's catastrophe so much more than powerful. Without giving anything abroad, this picture will stick with you for a long time.
The movie itself has been created beautifully. The cinematics, sound and editing is amazing and really helps create the perfect moving-picture show. I desire to mention separately how good the actors were though. Some of these scenes wouldn't have been anywhere well-nigh as constructive if information technology wasn't for the acting. ten/10. Makes me so proud of the British film industry :')

Accept the Idea and Run
While I thought this was a good movie, my thoughts at times came back to the standard premise effectually the state of affairs comedy. Let's take this character and this character, throw them together, and run across what happens. There are so many movies almost the Holocaust. Some are based on existent events and others take the events that took place and extrapolate on them. I couldn't become over the premise of "What if yous took the young son of the commandant of a expiry camp during the Holocaust and he met a little Jewish boy?" The whole relationship and the lack of basic security kind of throws me. The boys seem to take the run of things. When they meet, except for the siren that forces one of them back, it's as if they are ignored. Now, if we accept the premise put forth and tin believe in information technology, information technology becomes, of course, an indictment of bullheaded loyalty and a tragedy. I just never got in that location. The performances are good and there'southward that edge that Nazi ability presents, so it's still very difficult to watch, only I'thou but left with an empty, skeptical sense.

Heartbreaking Sight of State of war and Holocaust through Innocent Eyes
In World State of war Two, in Berlin, Commander Ralph (David Thewlis) is promoted and assigned to be in charge of a "labor piece of work" in the countryside. Yesterday I watched the heartbreaking "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" and I am however moved with this touching and tragic tale of ii pure boys and their sight of state of war and holocaust through their innocent eyes. The performances are top-notch, highlighting the expressive Asa Butterfield in the lead office and Jack Scanlon; inclusive I intend to see "Son of Rambow" very before long considering Asa Butterfield works also in this moving picture. The unusual approach of the holocaust is original since it is seen and felt by a immature German boy and his naive female parent, and the reaction of his female parent when she discovers what the smoke is indeed is impressive. A World War 2-movie for housewives
"The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas" is a romanticized version of a fourth dimension in history that had nothing romantic about information technology. Are you kidding me?
This movie is proof that we have reached the point of diminishing returns on films about the Holocaust. Many reviewers here have already recounted the ridiculous storyline, the bad acting, etc., and so I'll skip over that attribute of this cinematic failure. What struck me more than anything is how implausible the plot was and how unforgivably manipulative the ending is. My but emotions every bit the credits rolled on this dud were of disbelief that anyone would make such an irresponsible movie about such a serious subject thing. And so it brings me to the decision that we may just take said all there is to say almost the Holocaust. When movies like this begin to appear, it's subject, the Holocaust, has become a tool. A tool for money making, emotional exploitation, or commercialization. It is a disservice to history, and to the murdered millions, to use the Holocaust in such a shallow arbitrary manner. Don't meet this motion-picture show.

I told you lot, it's not a game; nosotros just all have numbers
I oasis't read the novel, nor did I know of it. When I starting time heard of this, I knew I would watch it. I honestly did want to like this. Let's start with a complaint I've heard; the children exercise not talk similar adults. My guess is that whoever thinks they practise is affected by the fact that they speak British, not American, English; aye, some of it is upper class and such, notwithstanding, offspring of these people would exist using those words. As Ebert points out, it fits, it shows their level in society. I also want to say that the accurateness(the lack of German language notwithstanding), is impressive(other than the outspoken mother... non after '34). Before, I believed that the music early on was not the sort that would be heard in that location, but I asked my father who'southward an skilful on the subject, and he confirmed that information technology could and would. This tries to cram in a lot of information about the Nazis and their propaganda; I couldn't help discover how awkwardly shoe-horned in a lot of information technology was. The DVD comes with an interesting commentary runway by the writer, author and director, a featurette that I will review on its own folio here on the site, and 6 minutes of deleted scenes with the pick of hearing the thoughts on them. I recommend this to those who want to catch every well-made movie about the Holocaust. seven/10

Moving + doesn't put a pes wrong
You don't oft sit down in a BAFTA screening and hear weeping behind you lot simply even the most hardened cineaste would be moved past this look at the holocaust through an Aryan child's eyes.
Information technology is beautifully scripted, acted and shot besides - with none of the anachronisms of taste and language that bedevil historically-set up films such as The Duchess.
A small, British moving-picture show with an unusual take on a ghastly and well-worn bailiwick.
PS - for parents: It's a 12A in Britain and I wouldn't accept a child nether almost xi. Nor would I allow them go alone.

Evil equally seen though the eyes of innocent children

Of all my reviews, I believe that this is the first "9" I accept given a moving-picture show. I do not know the mechanics of the film business concern and distribution, but I had been hearing "buzz" and radio advertisements about this motion-picture show for the last 30 days, and it wasn't until recently that it opened in only 2 theaters (25 miles apart) in all of metropolitan Sacramento.
The motion-picture show affected me on several levels- ane of which how a nice "family man" could become an SS commandant over a concentration army camp. The father was happily married with an 8 year erstwhile boy and 12 twelvemonth old daughter.
And the family (wife and mother in law) had some conversations that I am sure resonated in at to the lowest degree a few German family unit households during that era.
The male parent justified his work with the rationalization heard over history with genocide that "they aren't really people".
I will have to say that given the usual mindless entertainment on the silver screen this movie will stay with you.

Amateurish Revisionist Garbage
