Spring Art Project: Watercolor tape resist flower paintings

Leap art projects are popping up all over the place, and we've caught the bug! In this fine art project, we're focusing on tape resist and water color. Call back my post on Watercolor Techniques? Nosotros dipped into those a little bit.

Materials:

  • Watercolor or heavyweight art paper
  • Watercolor paints
  • Bluish painter'southward tape
  • Big old salt crystals, or anything you lot want to use forth with the paints. See these watercolor ideas.

Directions:

Rip pieces of record and "depict" with information technology on the watercolor paper. I avoided using the directly edges of the tape so everything looked a petty crude and loose.

Yous can apply long pieces of record and shorter pieces to form your flowers, and you will be focusing on the negative infinite.

This means you will need to think ahead every bit you are laying downwardly the tape: any is not taped off will be painted, and will exist the finished flower. Whatever is taped off will ultimately testify up every bit white lines around the blossom.

I laid on my colors fairly evenly, cipher too fancy. Simply different colors above and below the horizon line.

I sprinkled fibroid table salt on the flower and the stem because I was feeling nutty and wanted to add together in a petty texture.

Call up to let the paint dry out before y'all brush off the salt! Peel off the tape verrrry gently. Honestly, I've never been able to peel off the tape perfectly- there are e'er a few little bits of paper that come up with the tape. You just have to embrace the newspaper's texture in these cases….

Hither's another 1 I made using more than subdued colors and I dabbed them on with the brush in virtually a pointillism style. For this one, I taped the actual shape of the flower, so when I removed the shape the colour was only left on the residue of the folio, with a white silhouette of a flower.
